Innovative in everything he undertook; intelligent of mind and emotion; invitational as leader, teacher and comrade. Enthusiast for a limitless range of activities with a speciality for apparently lost causes; endorser of learning and creative expression; excellent in most things but with genuine humility. Natural and at ease in his teaching and professional relationships; navigator who found passage through the rough water and rocks for his students and colleagues; noble in his forgiveness.
